If you are thinking it’s a good idea to launch a mobile app for your law firm, first read this review by Jeff Taylor. Jeff is a lawyer in Oklahoma who writes a popular blog called, “The Droid Lawyer.” This is a scathing review of Sidley & Austin’s mobile app – not the execution, but the content.

My heart goes out to the marketing and IT team involved in this project.
A contrast to Sidley’s approach is Sutherland’s app, “Sutherland SALT Shaker.” This builds on the successful branding of the firm’s State and Local Tax group, and the app has high utility to these tax professionals. It quickly delivers bulleted updates by state, type of tax (excise, franchise, income, property, etc.) and topics (amnesty, apportionment, commerce clause, etc.). Sutherland’s app is intuitive, attractive and smart.
